cheesy plastic bottles

Plastic water bottles have changed.  They used to be stronger, thicker and would definitely hold their shape when held.  I've noticed a trend toward a lighter weight water bottle and I can't say I'm happy about it.  A lighter weight plastic water bottle may save the manufacturer money and the lighter weight may make it more convenient for those carrying the bottle, particularly hikers.  But, here is the drawback.  When the bottle is being opened for the first time while the cap is still sealed securely, there tends to be a gush of water spurting from the opening at the moment the seal is broken.  The pressure from the hand holding the bottle while it's sealed becomes too great and forces some of the water skyward as the water bottle begins to crumble.  What goes up, must come down...generally on my lap.  I'm not happy about this.  I will adjust, though.  I need to remember to open the bottle over something that needs water.  Like a houseplant or a dog's bowl.  Share the water, don't waste it.  Crumple onward!
