The Ides Of March

Yesterday was March 15. The ides of March. Every month actually has an ides. It just means the 15Th of that month. But, of course, the ides of March stands out because this supposedly was the day that Brutus "did in" Julius Caesar and was made famous by the writings of William Shakespeare. When my friend Linda and I were school girls we celebrated the ides of March. As we passed each other in the hallway between classes we would make sure we extended to each other a precautionary "BEWARE!" All day long this went on. And at the end of the day we would laugh about it. Generally nothing happened. No pop quizzes. No excessive homework. No ultra disastrous cafeteria food. Just planting the thought of something potentially happening was enough. We had our private laugh. Silly girls. So yesterday came and went. I wanted to warn Linda to BEWARE THE IDES OF MARCH. But I didn't. I didn't because I knew that Linda was going to have one of the biggest surprises of her life that day. And I was afraid I might give it away. I knew a surprise party was being given in Linda's honor by her daughter. It was a glorious day. So, today I extend a belated BEWARE THE IDES OF MARCH to my friend Linda. And many more.....
