waiting for the train

...to pass by.  I was sitting at a railroad crossing watching the freight train roll by.  I didn't have any music playing on the car radio.  I just wanted to take in the sights and sounds of the train.  I rolled down the car window and just listened to the train.  It took me back to my childhood.  I lived in a house next to a railroad track.  My siblings and I would play near the tracks--building forts in the rushes growing there.  We would wave to the engineers as they passed by and they would wave back to us.  I remember hearing the low rumbling of the train as it passed the house in the middle of the night.  The sound of the whistle was comforting.  So, as I sat in my car watching the train pass by, I took it all in.  I loved everything about it.  Everything!
