My Dog Is Chipped

No, he's not broken or anything. When I took Juneau to the veterinary clinic on Monday for his annual booster shots I also made arrangements to have an identification microchip installed(?). You see, he's a runner. I have had him for a little over two years. He is going on three and he still has a lot of puppy in him. He is part Siberian husky and he obeys the call of the wild. I have had a few chancy episodes with him in the past. One time his collar broke and he was off in a flash, laughing at me all the way. I was so distressed that I made some "lost" fliers to hand out in the neighborhood and I gave some to the mail lady (Jane) to hand out along her route. Later in the day Jane drove up in her little white mail truck and who do you think was riding in the front seat of the truck with her? Juneau, of course!! Jane found him lying in the shade under a tree behind the Budget Car Rental agency which is about a block from my house. He had been gone for four hours and I was very relieved to have him home. No punishment for him. How could I? I was just happy to see him. That was a year ago. He hasn't "escaped" since. I recently took him on a long cross country road trip. He handled the trip well, made some new dog friends in Mississippi and I would like to take him on more trips. I was a little concerned about locating him just in case he got lost (which he didn't) so to be on the safe side, he is now chipped. I would still panic if he got lost but I feel better knowing that he could be identified and returned if that did happen. It's just like insurance. I'm glad I have it. Sure hope I don't need it.
