When Anticipation Exceeds Presentation

I was driving along I-10 from the west coast to Texas.  It's a long drive and I stop along the way.  I was heading for one of my chosen pit stops and, having been there before, I was anticipating having dinner at a small family owned restaurant that specialized in Tex-Mex cuisine.  In my mind I could just taste the deliciousness of the entree.  My level of excitement rose as I drove closer to my destination.  After checking into the motel I went over to the restaurant, sat down and ordered my dinner.  The entree was plated well and looked appetizing.  The first bite told a different story.  What a disappointment.  I forged ahead thinking things would change.  It didn't get any better.   The anticipation of the long awaited delicious meal faded.  Was it an off night in the kitchen?  Did the chef overlook something?  What happened?  OR, perhaps, it was just me.  My anticipation was great. My expectations were even greater.  Maybe I let myself down.  Was the meal from the past really spectacular or was I merely fascinated with the history of the restaurant and the surrounding western town and it just appeared to be so?  I don't know.  Maybe both.
