Jeremy's Birthday

Jeremy spent his birthday working this year. Oh, not at his job or anything like that. No, no. He demolished the inside of his house. His little 1930's cottage with three small, closed in rooms is now a one room dance palace. Let me tell you something about Jeremy. He is a working dynamo!! The demo started with removal of an overhead cabinet that was definitely a head-catcher. Not good for a tall man. Somehow the demo morphed into a total annihilation of the interior of the structure. More cabinets came out and then it was a firewood storage box that bit the dust (literally). Then it was a wall. I believe this was just an exploratory mission that went farther than initially planned. But the coup-de-gras was the removal of the ceiling boards that were not-so-pretty. At the end of the day the house was a wreck and Jeremy was unrecognizable under all the dirt and grim covering his body. But he was happy! I would say, definitely, MORE than happy!! He was awake by six o'clock, pancakes consumed by six forty-five and on the work site by seven. And I was there, too, hauling stuff out of the house to the junk pile in the backyard and scraping freshly exposed walls. He could have slept in or spent the day at the beach but, no, he did his birthday his way. He worked hard and was very happy when all was said and done. And then he walked home. He was too dirty to get in the car. And after a nice shower, we went out and ate steaks. And we talked excitedly about the house. And it was a great day. And I spent it with my son. Sometimes as a parent we reminisce about days gone by when the kids were little and all the huggy times we had. But, let me tell you something. There is no greater hug than can be given freely by your adult child and no greater satisfaction for a parent than looking at your child and seeing the fantastic adult they have become. Birthday hugs and kisses, Mom xoxoxo

AMEN to those hugs from your adult children. They can be lifesavers.
