Uncle Sam And Miss Liberty

I like to watch people. I like to watch how they walk and how they stand. I check their posture and stance. And I like to look at their facial expressions, especially when they seem to be daydreaming. And I try to guess what is going through their mind. This brings me to some of the funniest people I am currently watching. They are the people who dress up in crazy costumes and stand alongside the road with their advertisement placards, drawing attention to the business establishment that hired them to dress up in the crazy costumes and stand alongside the road. Lately there are a plethora of Uncle Sam and Lady Liberty impersonators working for tax preparers. I pass them every day while I'm driving. The actors change, the costumes don't. Sometimes women wear Uncle Sam's clothes and yesterday I saw a very large, burly man with a full beard wearing the flowing robes of the Statue of Liberty. Oh, so funny!!! But what fascinates me most is the approach that the actors take while advertising. Some are smiling and looking directly into the eyes of the passing drivers. (Kinda freaky) Some wave and do a little dance. Car honks seem to encourage this. I have even been pointed at. Yikes!! But then there are those that hang their heads, look at the ground and barely move. They look so forlorn. In a way I feel sorry for them. Perhaps they really hate this job and just do it because they need the money. I don't know. I'm not grading any one's performance. Just observing. That's what I do. Observe. And then move on.
